Craughwell 3.09 – Davitts 1.14
A powerful finish which resulted in two Leanne Freaney goals from placed balls ensured a dramatic victory for Craughwell Senior Camogie team v Davitts in the first round of the senior championship last weekend. The final score line was a testimony to the never-say-die attitude of this young squad and sets them up nicely for the second-round game this Saturday, Oct 2nd versus neighbours Clarinbridge which is fixed for Gort at 3pm. The game ended in a welter of excitement as Craughwell were trailing a very accomplished Davitt’s side by 5 points as the match entered the final few minutes but a brilliant goal from a 25-metre free by Leanne was followed up with another super strike by her from the penalty spot after Lauren Gilligan was fouled while heading for goal meant Craughwell hit the front for the first time since the first water break. A nervous 2 minutes of injury time followed but an extremely resilient Craughwell defence marshalled by Captain Caoimhe Reidy kept Davitts at bay and held out for an extremely hard-fought victory. All roads lead to Gort on Saturday for the local derby game!!
